Archiproducts Design Awards 2022

We are delighted and proud to announce that ARABESK DOUBLE designed by Folke Jansson and with the special styling by SIMONE GUIDARELLI received the special mention for sustainability during the 2022 edition of the Archiproducts Design Awards.

The Arabesk Double project was born in 2021.

Matrix International was already the exclusive holder of the rights for the production and distribution of the ARABESK armchair worldwide, excluding Sweden.

Although it is a model conceived in the last century, Matrix decided to approach the re-edition in compliance with principles that have become essential in design and beyond, such as eco-sustainability and circularity.

For this reason, processes such as the 3D scan of the armchair to create the sofa have been tackled.

The shell was redesigned and produced by R3 Direct, a partner company in this project, with large-format additive technologies, to avoid the original construction technique, which contemplated the use of three distinct and non-separable, nor recyclable, materials at the end life (polyurethane foam, wood and metal). Post-consumer plastic granules produced in Tuscany by Revet Spa, certified as “Plastica Seconda Vita” and “EuCertPlast” were used.

The plastics come from door-to-door collection in Tuscany, and precisely from the most critical fraction (that plasmix which today represents over 55% by weight of the plastic packaging collected).

Revet in its modern recycling facility equipped with two parallel lines is able to extract the polyolefin component and recycle it directly.

To date, therefore, the structure consists of a monolithic body in post-consumer recycled plastic and a metal plate that can be easily separated at the end of its life.

It is printed with very low-consumption machines (less than one kWh), and which do not contemplate the use of steel or aluminum moulds, saving raw materials and highly energy-intensive processes.

In fact, this product represents an example of a virtuous local supply chain.
